The first thing to note about the Mega 4Bank DMX System is that it consists of four components: Mega 4Bank Fixture (fig. 1), Mounting Plate (fig. 2), Ballast (fig. 4) and Extension Cable (fig. 3). It was designed in this manner to allow the greatest flexibility when working on film production where the gaffer and DP are constantly being challenged to light unique locations and problem solve at a moment's notice.

Sometimes size does matter, so Kino Flo introduced a larger version of its popular 2ft and 4ft Select 4Bank lighting systems. The new line is called "Mega" and uses 6ft and 8ft T-12 bi-pin Lamps. The Mega series gives broader coverage to large areas, especially when using silks, backlighting photographic panels or building soft boxes to light automobiles or other large objects.

Even though it is a large source, the Mega 4Bank 8ft system only draws 4.3 Amps at 120vac and can plug into any wall socket on location. With its narrow profile, the Mega 4Bank can approximate the quality of light from bounced sources and create a tremendous amount of "wrap".

The Mega 4Bank fixture houses the lamps and is comprised of a removable Louver (x2), Reflector, and Lamp Harness.

Note: The 8ft fixtures include two 4ft Louvers; the 6ft fixtures include two 3ft Louvers.

The Louver and Reflector are held in place with Velcro fasteners. There is a strain relief on the lamp harness to ensure the connectors don’t pull off the lamps during operation. To get the harness away from the fixture, turn the ¼ turn fastener and rotate counter-clockwise to release.

2) "Harness Only"
The wiring harness is removed from the fixture so that the user can build a softbox, hide behind Plexiglass or rig into tight locations. The wiring harness uses Kino Flo designed lamp connectors that grab the lamp pins so lamps can be operated independently of the fixture.

3) "Harness + Reflector"
Same as above, but may want to use the reflector to give more punch and direction to the light.

4) Can use Louver to give direction to the light or remove louver to give broad coverage over an area, such as lighting blue and green screens etc.

The fixtures can take a variety of lamps. They can be used as a daylight source by using Kino Flo KF55 lamps or a tungsten source using Kino Flo KF32 lamps. A variety of visual effects for blue and green screen as well as designer colors are available.

Kino Flo lamps are color-correct and safety-sleeved. The lamps are safety-sleeved because they can operate inside the fixture or independently with only the wiring harness. Additionally, on a production set the lamps are often changed out. The safety-sleeving offers protection during lamp changes for the user as well as the talent on the set.

Káblový zväzok sa odstráni z držiaka tak, že užívateľ môže vytvoriť softbox, ktorý môže skovať sa plexisklo alebo priamo alebo upevniť v tesných lokáciách. Káble používaju Kino flom navrhnuté trubicové konektory, ktoré sa uchytia na trubicové kolíky, takže trubice sa dajú použiť nezávysle od obalu svetla.

To isté ako v bode číslo 2 len s tým rozdielom, že niektorý chcú používať aj reflektor na usmernenie a zvýraznenie svetelného toku.

4) Može sa použit mriežka na zmenšenie a usmernenie svetelného uhla, alebo nepoužiť čo zabezpečí široký uhol svietenia , napríklad pri zelenom alebo modrom kľúčovaní.

Do svetla sa dá použiť niekoľko druhov trubíc. Možu byť použité ako zdroj denného svetla S trubicami KF55 alebo ranného svetla S KF32, zelené a modré na kľúčovanie, alebo niekoľko druhov rôznych farieb.

Kino Flo trubice sú farebne korektné a potiahnuté ochrannou fóliou. Táto ochranná fólia zabezpečuje aby pri náhodnom rozbytí trubice nedošlo k úrazu.

A) Circular Output Connector: Provides electrical power to the lamp head with the use of a Mega 4Bank extension cable.

B) DMX-In & DMX-Out: DMX-In receives DMX signals from Dimmer Board. DMX-Out relays DMX signals through other Fixtures or Instruments. Note: Each Mega 4Bank DMX ballast (457M series) has an “AUTO TERMINATE” feature. The last ballast that does not have an XLR cable attached to the DMX “Out” port will automatically terminate.

C) DMX Address: Sets DMX Address. (Channels 1~4 = Lamps; Channel 5 = HO/Std)

D) DMX Indicator: Lights if valid DMX signal is present.

E) Manual Switches: Turns lamps on and off manually.

F) HO/STD: Set to HO for High Output and Std for Standard light output.

G)Fuse: Provides circuit protection. Note: If Fuse is “blown” or “open”, replace with same type of fuse

The Mega 4Bank DMX ballast has individual lamp switching. There is no delay when switching lamps. The ballast operates the lamps on/off instantly. Additionally, the lamps can be operated in a High Output/Standard Output (HO/Std) mode to raise or drop the wattage in the tubes for light output and color control without any color shift. Notice we haven’t used the word “dimming” to describe lighting control. The reason is that dimming changes a lamp’s color temperature and color balance. The combination of lamp switching and HO/Std controls light levels without the color shift issues you have with dimming.

The Mega 4Bank DMX ballast can be run manually or via a separate DMX control board. With DMX control the Mega 4Bank DMX ballast operates on 5 addresses. The first 4 addresses control the lamps and the 5th address controls the HO/Std setting.

In addition, each Mega 4Bank DMX ballast (457M series) has an “Auto Terminate” feature. The last fixture that does not have an XLR cable attached to the DMX “Out” port will automatically terminate. This can be a timesaver as it takes the guesswork out of knowing which DMX ballast is the last one that needs to be “closed” or “terminated” for proper DMX signals.

The Kino Flo Mega 4Bank DMX ballast accomplishes all this and still out-performs tungsten lighting instruments when it comes to energy efficiency. In other words, the Mega 4Bank DMX ballast uses less power at only 4.3A (120VAC) to produce the same amount of soft light as incandescents. The Mega 4Bank DMX ballast works reliably under most normal conditions, but it’s also trustworthy in more harsh conditions, such as extreme cold. The Mega ballast series is designed to operate at temperatures from 14F to122F (-10C to +50C).
